Connecting with the demolition industry is always worthwhile
As the International Media Partner of the European Demolition Association (EDA), Demolition & Recycling International brings you the latest EDA news in a dedicated part of the magazine.
The first quarter of 2023 was incredibly fruitful for the European Demolition Association (EDA), writes association president Stefano Panseri.
In just a few months, we have put in motion many projects, publications, and events; and many more are on the way.
The demolition industry is prospering, and the relationships within the sector grow as the days go by.
At the end of February, I had the honour to attend Demolition Phoenix for the first time as president of the EDA.
This annual event, organised by the National Demolition Association (NDA), has gathered industry professionals from all around the world.
Over the course of three days, we had an opportunity to witness various conferences and demonstrations; and, most importantly, connect with one another.
UNITY AND COLLABORATION
The environment, as well as the warm welcome we received, was impressive, and the feelings of unity and collaborative disposition were palpable.
Thus, meeting and discussing topics such as technological evolution, circular economy, and the environmental carbon footprint felt very productive.
As the event managed to reunite professionals from Northern America, Europe and other continents, their answers, contributions, and opinions painted a very detailed and complete picture of the demolition industry.
Throughout the event, one thing was clear.
While the cultural and legislative contexts are very different between the countries and continents, the problems we share are the same. Therefore, despite the differences, we can look for joint solutions that apply to all of us.
The exhibitors present at the Demolition Phoenix also deserve a special mention, as the number of activities they brought was outstanding. From the live demolition test fields to traditional fair stands, they showcased the brilliance and innovation of the supplier in the demolition industry.
Lastly, but no less important, I would like to thank the president of the NDA, James Milburn, for the kind words he dedicated to the EDA.
The hard work and passion that goes into organising this type of event are immense, but the payoff is equally great. The effort the industry professionals put into bringing the sector together, sharing knowledge, and looking for solutions suitable for all of us, always wields exceptional results.
Wherever you go, meeting demolition professionals makes you feel at home. ■
EDA adds name to eight-point Ukraine recovery plan
The European Demolition Association (EDA) has joined with trade association across construction to produce a series of recommendations on rebuilding Ukraine after the long and damaging war with Russia. A joint document from a total of nine organisations has recommended the following:
■ Rebuild better, quicker and more sustainably, without reducing quality
■ Buildings and infrastructure should be procured, designed and rebuilt sustainably and in accordance with European standards
■ The project preparation phase is of the utmost importance
■ The Ukrainian authorities, EU (European Union) institutions and multinational development banks should use procurement methods that prevent corruption
■ International contract standards should be applied to speed up negotiations and contract awards
■ Invoice approval procedures should be simplified to reduce the time limits for payments and reduce costs
■ The bank guarantees system should be simplified and harmonised for the same reason
■ The private sector should be encouraged to make long-term investment, especially brownfield.
