The construction industry needs to work harder to attract younger and ‘new’ people into the industry, those that have previously been underrepresented.
A study by McKinsey showed that half of the industry expect that labour will become even harder to find in the future and 87% said it was the most impactful issue for their business.
One of the consequences will be that the industry must pay its workers more. Recent analysis of US government figures by the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) showed that construction companies added approximately 20,000 employees in November and continued to raise wages for hourly workers at a more rapid rate than other equivalent sectors.
