Hot on the heels of the Yellow Table, our exclusive ranking of the world’s 50 biggest construction OEMs by sales (see the May-June issue) comes the ICON 200, a ranking of the world’s biggest contractors by sales. Last year’s list saw the sales generated by the contractors reach the highest level ever recorded on the list: a quite staggering US$1.968 trillion. Turn to page 18 to see the results and read our analysis of what the figures mean, and what the future may hold.
Turning to the strategies part, and we’ve recently had a company-wide strategy review where we’ve focused on our brands (what we do well, what we could do better) and looked at the wider industry to make sure we are giving you the content that you need.
When doing some research it hit me, once again, what a fascinating and vital industry we all work in. Construction is one of the world’s largest industries and is undergoing rapid change, with alternative powered equipment, new technological solutions, and an increased drive to sustainability just some of the main trends.
I referenced events in the headline as we’ve recently unveiled the date for our first ever in-person Construction Technology Summit. The summit will take place on March 18-19 in Austin, Texas, US, at the AT&T Conference Centre.
It will bring together leading figures from contractors, OEMs and the tech companies themselves – as well as experts from other fields – to discuss the current use of tech and look at future developments. The focus will be on what digital tech can do for our industry today, and how it will shape the way we build tomorrow. If this sounds like something you’d like to attend, or even speak at, then please do get in touch with me.
